Boruto Manga Online – Chapter 15 Review & Analysis

Code’s Attack on Jura and the Task to Kill Boruto and Koji

Chapter 15 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga has officially been released. The new Shinju, Ryu, is on the cover page of the chapter.

The chapter starts in the Sand Village, where Shinki and his teammates are trapped in Gaara’s sand. Shinki asks Gaara why he wouldn’t let them fight, and Gaara replies that he is transporting them out of the fight and orders them to escape. In front of Gaara, we see Matsuri, who tells him that the kids don’t matter to her, as she only came to the Sand Village following Boruto and Koji’s trail. She then tells Gaara that if he doesn’t do something about his wound, he will die and urges him to stop being concerned about the kids.

Gaara responds, saying that he cannot afford them to die, as they are the future of the Sand Village. Gaara then pushes the kids away from the fight, and a few Claw Grimes seem to be moving forward to attack him. While being pushed back, Shinki breaks out of Gaara’s sand with his iron sand hand. To keep Gaara safe, he casts a jutsu called Magnetic Particle Barrier Palm, which is a sealing jutsu. Shinki then tells Gaara that he is still needed for the future of the Sand Village.

A Claw Grime sneaks up on Shinki and bites him, turning him into a tree. Before losing consciousness, he tells the other two kids to inform Kankuro about what happened. Matsuri then walks up to Shinki’s barrier with Gaara inside. She says that even though Shinki has turned into a tree, his sealing jutsu is still active as long as he is alive, and only Shinki can deactivate it. She then comments that Shinki is admirable and would make a good teammate, as he risked his life to protect Gaara.

By the looks of it, Mamushi isn’t with Matsuri, which could mean he is either still in the Shinju Hideout or has gone to another village alone.

We then go back to Konoha, where we see Kankuro and Shikamaru talking. Kankuro explains to Shikamaru that Shinki and Gaara are still alive, but Gaara cannot be freed as only Shinki can deactivate the barrier. Kankuro suggests they restore Shinki first to save Gaara. He then asks Shikamaru if he knows how to save Shinki. Still, before Shikamaru answers, he asks Kankuro if anyone with the same chakra signature as Shinki has entered the village. Kankuro replies that no one like that has entered.

Shikamaru answers that they are still investigating how to save the tree victims and will share information once they figure it out. Kankuro then asks Shikamaru not to tell Temari about the situation involving her brother and step-nephew.

Sarada asks Shikamaru if they will see more Shinju, and Shikamaru says they might. He then asks Sarada to contact him again when Boruto talks to her for more intel. As Sarada and Sumire leave the room, we see Koji’s frog under Shikamaru’s desk. Koji must be listening to the conversation. Could we see Koji give Shikamaru some info in the next chapter? It’s doubtful Koji would fully trust Shikamaru, but we wouldn’t know for sure except for Koji himself. It’s up to him to decide whether talking to Shikamaru is a good idea.

On the next page, we return to the Shinju Hideout, where Ryu emerges. Ryu asks if “Ryu” is his name, and Jura replies that it’s the most fundamental piece of information he needs to establish an identity. Ryu then tells Jura that he knows him well and is quite taken with the name. Ryu can mean “grain of sand.”

Ryu senses something and casts iron sand out of his left shoulder. Code returns in this chapter, spying on the Shinju while hiding in the giant cube that works as a claw mark. Ryu grabs Code from the cube. Ryu asks Jura about him, and Jura tells him to let Code go, explaining that they should be thankful to Code as they were born because of him. Jura then asks Code why he’s in their hideout and if he needs their help.

Code asks Jura why they are just standing around and not devouring the Ōtsutsuki, specifically Boruto and Kawaki. Jura responds that they plan on doing that but have other priorities, namely their instinctual targets—just like how Jura wants to devour Himawari. Jura tells Code he can kill Boruto and Koji, as Kawaki is enough to be sacrificed. Code replies that he decides who he kills and that he will be the one to devour the chakra fruit to become a Ōtsutsuki and inherit Isshiki’s will.

Chapter 15 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga online continues with Jura asking Code what would happen if the Shinju ate the chakra fruit instead. Code wonders if Jura is trying to defy him, and then he activates Karma and attempts to attack Jura by placing his hand in a claw mark that appears on Jura’s chest. However, Jura slices off Code’s hand with his Tailed Beast Bullet. While Code screams in pain, Jura tells him that he is grateful to him because Code gave the Shinju the ability to think freely. Jura then tells Code he lacks motivation and gives him a task: he must kill Boruto and Koji. In exchange, Jura offers Code the chakra fruit.

Code covers his missing hand with a claw mark, and we see Mamushi laughing at him, saying that he feels refreshed seeing Code suffer. This is a callback to when Bug was Code’s servant and was terrified of him. Moving on, Code accepts the task of getting the chakra fruit. Jura then tells him he looks forward to seeing where his destiny leads. Code warns Jura to smirk while he still can because Code intends to have the last laugh.

Could this be foreshadowing? Might Jura betray Code and try to take the chakra fruit for himself, but Code takes it from him?

On the next page of the Boruto manga, Ryu asks Jura if he can kill Code the next time he shows up. Jura responds that Ryu can do so but should prioritize something else. This already gives me enough reason to believe that Jura won’t give Code the chakra fruit, but I believe Code will be the one to eat it anyway. Jura then asks Ryu who his target is, and Ryu answers that Gaara is his target. Ryu also mentions that he can release the barrier jutsu, which does not bode well for the Sand Village, especially for Gaara. I think Gaara might die.

Boruto & Kawaki Team Up Against Shinju

In the next scene, we see Boruto sitting on Naruto’s stone head statue. Kawaki walks up to him, and Boruto asks if he is alone. Kawaki says he is, but he thinks Eida is watching them. Boruto asks why Kawaki hasn’t attacked him yet. Kawaki wants to know why Boruto hasn’t said anything about Omnipotence and how everything is the way it is because of Kawaki (aside from the Shinju). Boruto says nothing good would come from it, as he wants to avoid confusion. He adds that Konoha is still functions normally and doesn’t mind being branded a rogue ninja. He also reveals that he has gained unwavering strength thanks to his teacher, Koji, who taught him abilities he would have learned in the future.

Kawaki asks about Momoshiki and whether things have settled with him, mentioning Boruto running away when his Karmawas activated. Boruto tells Kawaki that, two years ago, when he and Sasuke fought Code, he used Karma for the first time since leaving the village. While using it, he sensed something similar to the feeling he gets when Momoshiki possesses him—it’s a feeling where he stops being who he is and starts “dying” while still conscious and aware. Since then, he hasn’t used Karma.

Kawaki asks why this happened, but Boruto doesn’t know. However, he mentions that Momoshiki has been completely quiet for the last three years, although activating Karma might cause him to emerge. Boruto changes the subject to the Shinju and asks for Kawaki’s help defeating Jura. Kawaki, however, insists on discussing Momoshiki. Still, Boruto says that the Shinju come first, and if Momoshiki does emerge when the Shinju is gone, Kawaki is free to kill him. Boruto adds that for either situation, he needs to become much stronger.

Boruto then tells Kawaki that since he is Naruto’s student, he needs to free Naruto and have him train him. But Boruto acknowledges this isn’t realistic, as it would take too long. Boruto then tells Kawaki something that Kawaki might have figured out sooner or later: Amado has been hiding Kawaki’s true power. Boruto explains that Amado put a limiter on Kawaki’s offensive abilities but adjusted his defensive and regenerative abilities to above maximum levels. While saying this, we see Amado looking at a screen that shows Boruto, indicating that Kawaki’s right eye serves as a camera for Amado.

Amado then asks himself how Boruto found out, but he recalls that he saw through Kawaki that Kawaki was holding a frog that had appeared. Amado wonders if the toad is real and if Koji is alive. He then asks himself what Koji’s motive would be if he is still alive.

Boruto explains that Amado needs Kawaki’s Karma for his purpose, which is to revive his daughter, Akebi. He adds that Amado messed with Kawaki’s abilities to prevent his death, fearing that Code would attack him. Boruto tells Kawaki to ask Amado if he thinks he’s lying. As Boruto prepares to leave, Kawaki tells him that he’s not changing his stance that the Ōtsutsuki are evil and need to be exterminated—including themselves. However, he agrees that they should start with the Shinju.

In the last two pages, we see Boruto and Kawaki teaming up to defeat the Shinju.
